“So the runners passed from city to city through the country of Ephraim and Manasseh, as far as Zebulun; but they laughed at them and mocked them. Nevertheless some from Asher, Manasseh, and Zebulun humbled themselves and came to Jerusalem.” – 2 Chronicles 30:10-11
Revival was breaking out in Judah under King Hezekiah. The temple was cleansed, worship was restored, and hearts were turning back to the Lord. In chapters 29 and 30, we see one of the most beautiful pictures of renewal in the Old Testament. And then something remarkable happens—messengers are sent throughout the land, calling God’s people to return, to worship, and to celebrate the Passover. It was a glimpse of the Great Commission long before Jesus spoke it. God’s invitation was extended far beyond Jerusalem.
But revival in one place does not guarantee revival everywhere. As the runners traveled through Ephraim, Manasseh, and Zebulun, many laughed at them and mocked their message. Yet the messengers did not stop. They kept proclaiming what God commanded, and Scripture says that some humbled themselves and returned to the Lord. Not all. Not most. But some. God always has a remnant—those whose hearts soften when His Word is spoken, even when the majority rejects it.
This pattern continues today. Christ followers carry a message of hope, rescue, and repentance into a world that often mocks, dismisses, or ignores it. Many bury their heads in the sand, convinced life is fine and eternity is irrelevant. They laugh at the urgency of the gospel because they cannot see their danger. But just as in Hezekiah’s day, some will listen. Some will humble themselves. Some will return. And that is why we keep proclaiming Christ—because God uses faithful messengers to reach the few whose hearts are ready.
Who around you needs to hear the message of Christ today? Are you willing to speak even if someone laughs, mocks, or shrugs you off? Revival begins in your own heart, but it does not end there. God sends you out to rescue those “being led away to death” and to call back those “staggering toward slaughter.” Many will ignore you—but some will come home. Will you be faithful to the mission God has given you, even when the crowd mocks? May nothing stop you from inviting someone to Jesus today.
