When the Waters Keep Rising

“And the waters prevailed exceedingly on the earth, and all the high hills under the whole heaven were covered.” – Genesis 7:19

The story of Noah is more than a children’s tale—it is a picture of rising pressure, relentless storms, and God’s faithful protection. Notice the progression of the floodwaters: they spread, they rose, and eventually they covered even the highest mountains. Nothing escaped the storm. For 150 days the rain poured without mercy. Everything outside the ark perished. Yet Noah and his family were kept safe—not because the storm didn’t come, but because God sheltered them through it. Sometimes our lives feel the same. Problems rise like floodwaters, one wave after another, and the rain seems endless. We cry out to Jesus, but He doesn’t always remove the storm. Still, He always carries us through it.

Noah wasn’t spared from experiencing the flood—he was spared from its destruction. He felt the rocking of the ark, heard the pounding rain, and lived through the same storm the world faced. But his heart was right with God. He wasn’t perfect, but he walked with God in sincerity and obedience. That made all the difference. Just as the ark lifted Noah above the waters, Christ lifts us above the storms that threaten to overwhelm us. He doesn’t promise a life without rain, but He promises that no storm will destroy those who belong to Him.

We all face seasons when the waters rise and the rain refuses to stop. But if we are in Christ, He is our Ark—our refuge, our shelter, our safety. He may not take us out of the situation, but He will always bring us through it. And while we struggle, we must remember that many around us are facing deeper waters without a boat at all. If you are in a season of constant rain, stay close to Jesus. Hold fast to Him. He alone keeps you afloat when everything else is sinking.

Bring your storm to Jesus today. Don’t try to survive the rising waters in your own strength. Rest in Him, trust His protection, and stay inside the “Ark” of His presence. He will carry you through every wave until the rain stops and the ground appears again.

“I have learned to kiss the wave that throws me against the Rock of Ages.” — C.H. Spurgeon
