The Fight You Can’t See

“And war broke out in heaven: Michael and his angels fought with the dragon; and the dragon and his angels fought.” – Revelation 12:7

There’s a battle raging around us—a cosmic war far bigger than politics, culture, or personal struggles. Scripture pulls back the curtain and shows us a conflict that stretches beyond galaxies and into eternity. Stand on Jupiter and you’re a speck. Stand beside a star and you’re invisible. And yet, the God who spoke those stars into existence has placed you in the middle of this spiritual war. That truth should humble us. It should strip away pride and leave us leaning fully on the strength of God, because the battle is real and the enemy is cunning.

History gives us a picture of how to fight. During World War II, General George Patton faced the brilliant German commander Erwin Rommel in North Africa. Rommel was sweeping through the continent with precision and power—but Patton came prepared. In the heat of battle, Patton shouted, “Rommel, I read your book!” He had studied Rommel’s strategies and used them against him. That’s how believers must fight. The devil hasn’t written a book—but God has. In His Word, He reveals the enemy’s schemes and gives us the armor to stand. “Put on the whole armor of God, that you may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil” (Ephesians 6:11, NKJV). And He reminds us, “Yet in all these things we are more than conquerors through Him who loved us” (Romans 8:37, NKJV).

But we must not underestimate our enemy. Satan is not a cartoon figure—he is a fallen angel who deceived two sinless people in Genesis 3. He studies humanity. He twists Scripture. He exploits weakness. A list called “The Devil’s Beatitudes” captures the danger: blessed are the too-busy-to-pray, the easily offended, the gossipers, the ones who forsake gathering with God’s people. These aren’t Bible verses, but they echo biblical warnings. “Not forsaking the assembling of ourselves together” (Hebrews 10:25, NKJV). “A whisperer separates the best of friends” (Proverbs 16:28, NKJV). “Pray without ceasing” (1 Thessalonians 5:17, NKJV). The enemy knows how to divide, discourage, and derail—but we are not without hope. We have the Word of God, the armor of God, the Spirit of God, and the victory of Christ.

So as we move forward, let’s study our relationship to this enemy. Let’s understand his tactics. Let’s expose his lies. And let’s stand firm in the truth. The picture is big. The battle is real. But our God is greater. And in Him, we are more than conquerors

“There is no neutral ground in the universe: every square inch, every split second, is claimed by God and counterclaimed by Satan.” — C.S. Lewis
