“Peace I leave with you, My peace I give to you; not as the world gives do I give to you. Let not your heart be troubled, neither let it be afraid.” – John 14:27
In a world overflowing with anxiety, Jesus’ words in John 14:27 break through the noise like a calming breeze: “Peace I leave with you, My peace I give to you.” We worry about our jobs, our homes, our families, and the future. Even as believers, we often find ourselves troubled because we slip into walking by the flesh instead of the Spirit. Worry feels natural, almost automatic—but Jesus reminds us that fear does not have to rule our hearts.
Jesus tells us that we actually have the ability to push fear aside. The battle is in the mind, which is why Scripture calls us to “put on the helmet of salvation” (Ephesians 6). A helmet protects the head, and salvation protects our thoughts. When we remember who we belong to and what Christ has done for us, peace begins to settle in. The Bible also tells us to “take every thought captive” (2 Corinthians 10:5), reminding us that we don’t have to let anxious thoughts run wild. We can stop them, redirect them, and replace them with truth.
The peace Jesus gives is not like the world’s peace—temporary, shallow, and easily shaken. His peace is rooted in the cross, purchased with His own blood, and anchored in the certainty of our salvation. One writer put it this way: “He did not bequeath material things but something money could not buy—peace… His gift of peace is forever.” When we understand that our sins are forgiven and we are reconciled to God, fear loses its grip. Peace becomes more than a feeling—it becomes a foundation.
Today, take a moment to examine what is troubling your heart. What thoughts are stealing your peace? Bring them to Jesus. Remind yourself of your salvation, your forgiveness, and your secure standing in Him. Choose to take your thoughts captive and replace fear with truth. Let His words settle deep into your soul: “Let not your heart be troubled, neither let it be afraid.” His peace is yours—receive it, rest in it, and walk in it today.
“Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication, with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God; 7 and the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus.” – Philippians 4:6-7
