Hope at the Throne of Grace

“Seeing then that we have a great High Priest who has passed through the heavens, Jesus the Son of God, let us hold fast our confession. For we do not have a High Priest who cannot sympathize with our weaknesses, but was in all points tempted as we are, yet without sin. Let us therefore come boldly to the throne of grace, that we may obtain mercy and find grace to help in time of need.” – Hebrews 4:14-16

The writer of Hebrews lifts our eyes to Jesus—our great High Priest. Many priests served under the old covenant, but none were ever called “great.” Only Jesus holds that title because only He stands as the true Mediator between God and man. His name, Jesus, reminds us of His humanity—He became one of us. His title, Son of God, declares His deity—He is fully God. This perfect union of humanity and divinity makes Him uniquely able to represent us before the Father.

After His resurrection, Jesus ascended and “passed through the heavens,” entering the very dwelling place of God. He now sits enthroned at the Father’s right hand, not on a throne of judgment but on a throne of grace. Under the old covenant, the high priest entered the holiest place once a year to make atonement. But Jesus entered once for all, tearing the veil and opening the way for every believer to come freely. Because of His sacrifice, we never approach God timidly—we come boldly, confidently, and joyfully, knowing the door is always open.

And here is our hope: Jesus understands us. He sympathizes with our weaknesses because He walked where we walk. He faced temptation, sorrow, exhaustion, rejection—yet without sin. When Scripture exposes our hearts, we do not run from Him; we run to Him. At His throne, we find mercy for our failures and grace for our needs. He is both King and Priest—majestic enough to save us, gentle enough to help us.

He understands your struggles, He welcomes your prayers, and He offers mercy and grace in every moment. Let Him be the One you turn to, the One you trust, and the One you serve.
