The Weight of Sin Removed

“For Christ is the end of the law for righteousness to everyone who believes.” – Romans 10:4

Some view Christ’s fulfillment of the law as a theological milestone: He lived perfectly, fulfilled the Old Testament, and ushered in the New. All true. But Paul’s words go deeper. Jesus didn’t just check off prophetic boxes—He became the very righteousness we could never achieve. And this righteousness is only applied “to everyone who believes.” Without faith, the law still stands as a mirror of judgment. But for the believer, Jesus is the end of striving, the end of guilt, the end of trying to earn what He freely gives.

Imagine carrying a backpack filled with bricks—each brick representing a ritual, a rule, a religious expectation. At first, you manage. But over time, the weight becomes unbearable. You stumble, you forget, you fail. Guilt piles on like more bricks until you collapse under the pressure. That’s the life of someone trying to earn salvation through law-keeping. But Jesus steps in and lifts the load. “For He made Him who knew no sin to be sin for us, that we might become the righteousness of God in Him.” (2 Corinthians 5:21, NKJV). He didn’t just lighten the burden—He removed it entirely. The handwriting of requirements that condemned us? “He has taken it out of the way, having nailed it to the cross.” (Colossians 2:14, NKJV). That’s not just history. That’s freedom.

So what do we do with this truth? First, we rest in it. Stop trying to earn what Christ has already paid for. Second, we share it. There are many still under the weight of law and guilt, unaware that Jesus has fulfilled it all. Like Paul said of Israel, they are “ignorant of God’s righteousness.” Let’s be the ones who point them to the One who fulfilled the law and offers grace. If you’ve been trying to measure up, let go. Believe. Receive. And walk in the joy of knowing that the law has been fulfilled—for you.

“The law is ended by Christ, but only in this sense—that He has fulfilled it. He has magnified the law and made it honorable. He has kept it in every point and jot and tittle. And now, for everyone who believes, the law has no further claim. Christ has satisfied it on their behalf.” – Charles Spurgeon
