Our Inheritance

“and if children, then heirs—heirs of God and joint heirs with Christ, if indeed we suffer with Him, that we may also be glorified together.” – Romans 8:17

Colossians 1:12 says we should be “giving thanks to the Father who has qualified us to be partakers of the inheritance of the saints in the light.” That’s not a vague hope—it’s a secured reality. God didn’t qualify us because we earned it. He qualified us by sending His Son, Jesus Christ, who died for us while we were still His enemies. Through His death and resurrection, we’ve been given an inheritance. And because we believe, we are now joint heirs with Christ. Think about that—Jesus, perfect in every way, obedient even unto death, deserves everything He inherits. Yet He gladly shares it with us. Hebrews 1:2 says Jesus is “appointed heir of all things.” And if we are joint heirs with Him, then we too inherit all things—not deity, but every spiritual blessing and eternal treasure that comes with salvation.

This inheritance isn’t just a concept—it’s a reality with a reserved seat. 1 Peter 1:4 tells us it is “incorruptible and undefiled and that does not fade away, reserved in heaven for you.” Imagine walking into a wedding banquet and seeing a sign at the table that says “Reserved.” That’s your spot. No one can take it. God doesn’t remove your name when you stumble and then reassign it when you repent. Your place is secured because Jesus went ahead to prepare it. And how are we kept in this inheritance? 1 Peter 1:5 answers, “who are kept by the power of God through faith.” We’re not kept by our performance, our lists, or our willpower. We’re kept by His power. Peter knew this firsthand—after all his failures, he was still kept by grace.

So here’s the call: live with confidence in your inheritance. You’ve been qualified, you’ve been reserved, and you’ve been kept. Every time you’ve fallen, God has lifted you. Every time you’ve doubted, He has reminded you. You’re still here because He’s still holding you. Let that truth stir your heart with gratitude and joy. Let it shape how you live and how you love. And let it remind you that your inheritance is not just future—it’s already yours in Christ. You are a joint heir with Jesus, and nothing can take that away. Now, as we move forward, we begin to understand what it means to suffer with Christ—because even in suffering, the inheritance remains

“Inheritance is not only by grace but by His power. He ensures that we are going to get it”
