He Will Never Let You Go

“For scarcely for a righteous man will one die; yet perhaps for a good man someone would even dare to die. But God demonstrates His own love toward us, in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us. Much more then, having now been justified by His blood, we shall be saved from wrath through Him. For if when we were enemies we were reconciled to God through the death of His Son, much more, having been reconciled, we shall be saved by His life. And not only that, but we also rejoice in God through our Lord Jesus Christ, through whom we have now received the reconciliation.” – Romans 5:7-11

Human love can be noble and sacrificial—some may even lay down their lives for a good person. Soldiers, first responders, and everyday heroes remind us of this kind of devotion. But Paul tells us in Romans 5:7–8 that there’s a love far greater. “But God demonstrates His own love toward us, in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us.” This isn’t love for the worthy—it’s love for the ungodly. It’s not a calculated risk or a noble gesture. It’s divine mercy poured out on those who were powerless, rebellious, and undeserving. If that doesn’t shake us, we haven’t yet grasped the holiness of God or the depth of our sin.

God’s love doesn’t just rescue—it keeps. Paul continues, “Much more then, having now been justified by His blood, we shall be saved from wrath through Him” (Romans 5:9). If Christ saved us when we were enemies, won’t He keep us now that we are His friends? Salvation isn’t a trial run—it’s full and eternal. We were reconciled by His death, and now we are kept by His life (Romans 5:10). Jesus didn’t just die to bring us near—He lives to hold us fast. “Because I live, you will live also” (John 14:19). He is our High Priest, always interceding, always faithful. If He did the lesser—saving us in death—He will surely do the greater—keeping us in life.

This is why Paul says, “And not only that…” (Romans 5:11). There’s more. Not only are we saved and kept, but we rejoice in God through Jesus Christ. The Holy Spirit fills our hearts with love and joy, confirming that we belong to Him. This isn’t just theology—it’s experience. It’s the inward witness that says, “You are His.” So when we sin, we don’t hide in fear—we run to the Father in faith. We cry out, “Forgive me,” not because we doubt His love, but because we trust it. If He loved us when we were at our worst, He will not abandon us now that we are in Christ.

God’s love is unending, unrestrained, and undeserved. It reached you when you were far off, and it will carry you to the end. If you’ve been wrestling with guilt or fear, remember this—your salvation is secure because your Savior is alive. He keeps His promises. He keeps His people. “Behold what manner of love the Father has bestowed on us, that we should be called children of God!” (1 John 3:1). Let that love shape your worship, your walk, and your confidence today. You are His—and He will never let you go.

“Christ died for us while we were yet sinners. He did not wait for us to be good, but came to us in our worst condition. This is love beyond all measure.” – John Bunyan
