Start With What’s in Your Hands

“They shall eat and have some left over.” – 2 Kings 4:43

A man came from Baal Shalisha carrying what looked like a small, simple offering—twenty loaves of barley bread and some newly ripened grain. It wasn’t much, especially when placed before one hundred hungry men. Even Elisha’s servant questioned it, saying, “What? Shall I set this before one hundred men?” To human eyes, the math didn’t work. The supply didn’t match the need. But Elisha spoke with the confidence of someone who knew the character of God: “Give it to the people, that they may eat, for thus says the Lord: ‘They shall eat and have some left over.’” God delights in taking what is small and making it more than enough.

God has never needed large numbers, impressive resources, or overwhelming supply. He simply asks for what we have—no matter how small—and then He multiplies it. When Gideon faced the Midianites, God reduced his army to three hundred so the victory would clearly be from Him. When the widow in Zarephath had only a handful of flour and a little oil, God sustained her household through the entire famine. When the prophet’s widow had nothing but a jar of oil, God filled every vessel she could find. The man from Baal Shalisha didn’t bring a feast; he brought a handful. Yet in the hands of God, a handful became abundance. It’s like a tiny spark that becomes a roaring fire when touched by the breath of God.

We often look at our own lives and think, “Lord, I don’t have much to offer.” We see our limited time, limited strength, limited resources, and assume God can’t do much with them. But this passage reminds us that God is not limited by what limits us. He can take twenty loaves and feed a hundred. He can take your small offering—your prayer, your service, your obedience—and accomplish far more than you imagined. The question is never, “Is it enough?” The question is, “Will I give it to Him?” Because when God speaks, “They shall eat and have some left over,” He means it.

What small thing has God placed in your hands today? Are you holding back because it feels insignificant? Offer it to Him. Trust Him with it. God specializes in taking what seems too little and turning it into more than enough. Let Him multiply what you surrender.
