What God Has Is Greater

“Then Amaziah said to the man of God, ‘But what shall we do about the hundred talents which I have given to the troops of Israel?’ And the man of God answered, ‘The Lord is able to give you much more than this.’” – 2 Chronicles 25:9

Amaziah, king of Judah, had begun to build his security the way many people do—by counting numbers, stacking resources, and trusting in what he could see. He hired troops from Israel, paying what would amount to millions today, and felt confident because of the army he assembled. But God, in His grace, sent a man of God to warn him that he was heading down the wrong path. Amaziah had begun to lean on human strength rather than divine help. Like a person who trusts more in their savings account than in their Savior, Amaziah was in danger of building his life on sand instead of the Rock.

When Amaziah finally listened, he faced a new fear: the fear of losing what he had already invested. He said, “But what about the money I paid?” It’s the same question we often ask when God redirects our lives. “Lord, what about all the time I spent? What about the plans I made? What about the things I built?” And the man of God answered with a truth that still shakes the soul today: “The Lord is able to give you much more than this.” God wasn’t asking Amaziah to lose—He was asking him to trust. Just like Abraham leaving Ur, or Peter dropping his nets, Amaziah had to let go of what he thought was secure so he could receive what God had prepared.

We often build our own “nest eggs”—retirement plans, savings, possessions, routines—and begin to trust in them more than in God. When He calls us to change direction, we panic over what we might lose instead of believing what He can give. But God never asks us to release something without having something greater in His hand. Amaziah feared losing money; God was offering protection, victory, and blessing. The same is true for us. When God gets our attention and asks us to let go, it’s never to harm us—it’s to help us. It’s to free us from false security and lead us into His abundance.

Is God trying to get your attention today? Are you holding tightly to something He is asking you to release? Remember the words of the man of God: “The Lord is able to give you much more than this.” Don’t cling to what God is trying to remove. Trust Him. He will make up anything you feel you are losing—and give you far more than you imagined.
