Obedience Without Borders

“…in mighty signs and wonders, by the power of the Spirit of God, so that from Jerusalem and round about to Illyricum I have fully preached the gospel of Christ. And so I have made it my aim to preach the gospel, not where Christ was named, lest I should build on another man’s foundation, but as it is written:

‘To whom He was not announced, they shall see;
And those who have not heard shall understand.’” – Romans 15:19-21

Paul’s words in Romans 15:19–21 read like the heartbeat of a man who refused to let the gospel stay still. It’s as if Paul stood at the edge of every map and asked, “What’s beyond that line?” Every border became an invitation. Every unreached place became sacred ground. He wasn’t just a priest offering people to God or a preacher declaring truth—he was a missionary whose calling stretched farther than comfort, convenience, or personal limits. His ministry was marked by mighty signs and wonders, but even more by a relentless obedience to the Spirit of God.

Paul didn’t preach halfway. He didn’t stop when things got hard or when the road grew long. He preached “fully”—with his words, his life, his scars, and his surrender. From Jerusalem to Illyricum—1,400 miles on foot—Paul sowed gospel seed like a farmer determined to leave no field untouched. And he didn’t aim for places where the work was already done. He longed to go where Christ had never been named, to shine light where darkness still ruled. Like a pioneer carrying a torch into unlit rooms, Paul lived out Isaiah’s prophecy: “To whom He was not announced, they shall see; and those who have not heard shall understand.” His mission wasn’t popularity—it was obedience. Not comfort—but calling.

This is the mark of a true servant of God: they don’t stop until the job is done. Paul didn’t measure success by crowds or applause but by faithfulness to the task God gave him. And that same Spirit who drove Paul across continents now calls us across the street, across the office, across the table. Your mission field may not span 1,400 miles, but it includes souls God has placed within your reach. The gospel still seeks the unreached—sometimes in nations, sometimes in neighborhoods, sometimes in the quiet corners of our own homes.

Ask God to show you the “unreached places” in your life—the people, spaces, or opportunities where Christ is not yet known. Step beyond comfort and into calling. Share the gospel with boldness, live it with integrity, and let the Spirit empower every step. And like Paul, run your race thoroughly and joyfully—until the King calls you home.

“The evangelist’s business is to carry the message where Christ is not known, to blaze the trail for others, and to leave results with God.”—H.A. Ironside
