“Now I say that Jesus Christ has become a servant to the circumcision for the truth of God, to confirm the promises made to the fathers, and that the Gentiles might glorify God for His mercy, as it is written:
‘For this reason I will confess to You among the Gentiles,
And sing to Your name.’” – Romans 15:8-9
Here, Paul turns our attention to a truth that echoes across all of Scripture—God keeps His word. From the opening chapters of Genesis to the final pages of the prophets, God promised a Redeemer. He told Abraham, “In you all the families of the earth shall be blessed” (Genesis 12:3, NKJV). Jesus came as the living proof that every covenant, every prophecy, and every promise was true. He was born into Israel, circumcised according to the covenant, and sent first to the Jewish people—not as an outsider, but as the fulfillment of everything God had spoken. His life verified God’s faithfulness; His coming declared that not one word from God had failed.
But Jesus did not come only for Israel—His mission was always bigger. Paul quotes the Old Testament repeatedly to show that the Gentiles were included in God’s plan from the beginning. The prophets foresaw it. The psalms celebrated it. The covenant with Abraham promised it. Salvation was never meant to be exclusive; it was always meant to be expansive. Mary understood this when she praised God, saying He remembered His mercy to Abraham and his descendants forever (Luke 1:54–55). Zechariah rejoiced that God had “visited and redeemed His people” (Luke 1:68). In Christ, Jew and Gentile stand together—not divided, but united—because God keeps His promises to all.
This is the beauty of the gospel: Jesus came for more than just you or me. He came to prove God true, to fulfill every prophecy, and to bring salvation to the world. The Jew praises God for His truth—because every promise to the fathers was fulfilled in Christ. The Gentile praises God for His mercy—because salvation has reached those once far off. Together, we form one redeemed family, one people of God, one voice declaring His glory.
Thank God today that He keeps every promise. Celebrate that His salvation is bigger than your story—it is a global story. Ask Him to help you see others the way He does, to rejoice in His faithfulness, and to live as part of His great plan to bring all people to Himself. May your life reflect the truth that Jesus is the fulfillment of every promise God has made.
“Christ is the fulfillment of all prophecy, the substance of every shadow, the end of every promise. In Him the ancient covenants find their ‘Yea’ and ‘Amen.’”—Horatius Bonar
