Whose Faith Is It Anyway?

“Through faith in Jesus Christ…” – Romans 3:22

Faith is the key that unlocks the door to salvation. And just as God alone appointed the sacrifices in the Old Testament, so He alone has appointed the way to be made right with Him—through faith in His Son.

This faith isn’t vague or passive—it’s rooted in the finished work of Christ. When Jesus cried out, “It is finished,” He declared that the debt of sin was paid in full. Our part is to trust that truth, to believe in who He is and what He has done. Romans 10:9–10 makes it clear: “If you confess with your mouth the Lord Jesus and believe in your heart… you will be saved.” But true faith doesn’t stop at confession—it continues in obedience. Jesus said, “If you abide in My word, you are My disciples indeed” (John 8:31). Real faith walks. Real faith obeys. Disobedience reveals a heart that hasn’t truly believed.

And here’s the most humbling truth: even the faith we need to be saved isn’t ours—it’s a gift. Ephesians 2:8 says, “By grace you have been saved through faith, and that not of yourselves; it is the gift of God.” Hebrews 12 calls Jesus the “author and finisher of our faith.” That means from beginning to end, salvation is God’s work. We don’t initiate it, we don’t sustain it, and we don’t complete it. We simply receive it. So today, rest in that truth. Stop measuring your worth by your performance. Start trusting in His provision. Faith begins with God—and He is faithful to finish what He starts.

“…being confident of this very thing, that He who has begun a good work in you will complete it until the day of Jesus Christ.” – Philippians 1:6
