“And He put all things under His feet, and gave Him to be head over all things to the church, which is His body, the fullness of Him who fills all in all.”
– Ephesians 1:22
When salvation is in our possession, everything in our lives is “sanctified and sweet.” Christ is the head of the church, not only of dominion but also of influence. He desires the good of the members of His body. Not only does He feel our pains as if the apple of his eye were touched (Zechariah 2:8), all things given to us through Him are pure (Titus 1:15). All that we possess as believers are better than all the treasures in the world. As the Psalmist said, “A little that a righteous man has is better than the riches of many wicked” (Psalm 37:16).
Whatever good we receive through Christ, we can conclude that it was paid with the price of His blood. Everything has been placed under His feet. Though it all comes to us freely, it cost Him dear. Christ’s invaluable blood purchased all the comforts we possess. What we lost in Adam has been restored with our advantage in Christ Jesus our Lord.
All things have been given to Christ. As heirs of promise, all things are ours upon the title of being His (1 Corinthians 3:21-22). The most precious is reconciliation with God, a sweet mercy that is the fruit of the “labor of His soul” (Isaiah 53:11). Salvation is a prized possession to us, yet a costly acquisition of the Lord. Through His poverty, our lives have been so enriched with His love (2 Corinthians 8:9). And what a matchless love is the love of Christ!
“Here’s the paradox. We can fully embrace God’s love only when we recognize how completely unworthy of it we are.”
– Ann Tatlock
