Is There Another Gospel?

“But even if we, or an angel from heaven, preach any other gospel to you than what we have preached to you, let him be accursed.” – Galatians 1:8

Paul wrote to the believers scattered throughout Galatia with urgency and clarity. False teachers—known as Judaizers—had infiltrated the churches and were preaching a message that sounded close to the gospel but was not the gospel at all. They taught that salvation required faith in Jesus plus obedience to the Mosaic law. Paul confronted this distortion head‑on. The gospel he preached was not man‑made, not adjustable, and not open to additions. It was the message affirmed at the Jerusalem council: salvation comes through Christ alone, by grace alone, through faith alone.

Paul reminded the Galatians that even if he himself—or an angel from heaven—preached a different message, that messenger must be rejected. Truth does not change based on personality, popularity, or persuasion. False gospels have always existed, and they still exist today. Many systems of belief add human effort, rituals, or religious performance to the finished work of Christ. They bind people with rules, restrict access to Scripture, and elevate human authority above God’s Word. Scripture warns that Satan often imitates Christ, offering substitutes that look spiritual but lead people away from the truth.

Even sincere believers can drift into thinking that religious activity earns salvation. Attending church, serving, giving, or doing good works are important—but none of them save. True obedience flows from a transformed heart, not from human effort. When we trust in Christ, we are justified by faith and given direct access to God. No mediator, ritual, or religious system stands between the believer and the Lord. Salvation is God’s work from beginning to end, and any message that adds to Christ’s finished work must be rejected.

What about you today? Are you resting in Christ alone, or have you unknowingly added something to the gospel? Are you trusting in Jesus’ finished work, or in your own efforts, traditions, or routines? Examine your heart. The gospel is simple, pure, and powerful: Jesus saves completely. Hold fast to that truth, and let nothing—no teacher, no system, no feeling—pull you away from it.

“Satan’s masterpiece is the gospel of works. It is the most subtle and deadly of all his devices.” — A.W. Pink
