Truth Matters More Than Feelings

“So man lies down and does not rise, till the heavens are no more. They will not awake nor be roused from their sleep.” – Job 14:12

These words come from a deeply discouraged Job. In his suffering, he begins speaking about the afterlife—yet he speaks from limited understanding. His statements are recorded in Scripture, but they are not always doctrinally accurate. They reveal the honest wrestling of a fallible man trying to make sense of pain. Later, God corrects Job’s misunderstandings, and Job humbly confesses, “I have uttered what I did not understand, things too wonderful for me, which I did not know” (Job 42:3).

Sadly, some religions have taken Job’s despairing words and built doctrines around them—claiming there is no conscious afterlife, no judgment, no hell. But Scripture must interpret Scripture. Jesus Himself speaks clearly about eternal judgment and eternal life in Matthew 25. The Bible is a unified revelation, and we must know the whole counsel of God to avoid being misled. When we only know fragments of Scripture, we become vulnerable to false teaching, confusion, and spiritual drift.

A 2026 Lifeway Research study revealed that only 31% of Protestant churchgoers read the Bible daily, and only 22% of Americans have read the entire Bible even once. That means most believers know more about entertainment, sports, and culture than they do about the God they claim to follow. Hosea 4:6 warns, “My people are destroyed for lack of knowledge.” This is one of the reasons many will fall away from the faith in the last days (1 Tim. 4:1). The cure is simple but costly: pick up your Bible and read it. Know God’s Word so you won’t be deceived.

Will you open your Bible today? Will you spend time with Jesus and grow in the knowledge that protects, strengthens, and anchors your faith? Don’t settle for secondhand information or cultural opinions. Let God speak to you directly through His Word. Your spiritual stability depends on it.
