“And this is a simple matter in the sight of the Lord…” – 2 Kings 3:18
The armies of Israel, Judah, and Edom were stranded in the wilderness with no water—no water for themselves and no water for their animals. They were exhausted, desperate, and convinced defeat was near. But when they sought the word of the Lord through Elisha, God promised something astonishing: valleys filled with water without wind, without rain, without any visible source. And then Elisha added this powerful line—“And this is a simple matter in the sight of the Lord.” What looked impossible to them was effortless to God. The miracle wasn’t just water; it was water flowing from a place they never expected. God was teaching them—and us—that He doesn’t need visible channels to send blessings.
But notice something important: before the water came, God told them to make the valley full of ditches (v. 16). They had to create space for the blessing before the blessing arrived. If they had not dug any ditches, they would have received no water. We don’t always know where God’s blessings will flow from, but we must have places in our lives for those blessings to flow into. If the ground of our heart is hardened, the water cannot penetrate. If our spiritual “ditches” are shallow, the blessing cannot fill them. God often sends provision from unexpected places—but He looks for prepared hearts, open hands, and surrendered lives ready to receive.
And God didn’t stop at water. He promised total victory over Moab. The same water that refreshed the armies became the very thing God used to confuse the enemy and secure triumph. The miracle wasn’t just survival—it was success. Not partial victory, but complete victory. That’s what God does when we prepare room for Him: He fills, He fights, and He finishes what He starts.
Are there ditches in your life—places you’ve prepared for God to fill? Or is the ground of your heart too hard for His blessings to penetrate? Make space for Him today. Dig deep through prayer, surrender, and obedience. God may send provision from a direction you never expected, and He may bring victory in ways you never imagined. What looks impossible to you is a simple matter in the sight of the Lord.
